About

unnamWelcome to Dublin Foodie Gal (xxFGxx)

I am Sophie ( and my second name is FOOD)… I joke !….  a culinary enthusiastic arts student from Dublin who has been fascinated with food ever since, since, if that makes sense. =]

As told by my Mother, baking is in my genes.  My Great Grand Father Mathew Munster was born in north west Germany. He then moved to Ireland with his parents when he was 6 years old to the countyside  of Cavan Co. Louth. When in his teens he traveled to Dublin city where he studied baking; only to become Master Baker with Kennedy’s family bakery in Parnell street, Dublin’s northside in the early 1900’s. So turns out that baking in truly an innate passion of mine and its fascinating to be that it runs in the blood.

However I ceased to explore my foodie journey at a young age when I refused to eat anything but a bowl of spaghetti and tomato ketchup. My Mam and my Aunty in law ( My Aunty is Japanese by the way, probably where my love for food stemmed from….) tried everything to get some form of nourishment into my stubborn little belly but with that headstrong little mind of mine, I did not eat anything other. One day, I surprised my Aunty by trying some broccoli dipped in mayonnaise- strange.. I know! ..However..excellent combination for all you greenies-  and from the power of surprise across my mammy’s face I never looked back.

I also explored the art of baking from a young age. It all started when I ate my first piece Victoria sponge cake in my Aunty’s kitchen (still to this day I claim that a simple sponge cake tops all cakes in the cake world) And so, I began to bake my own, making a mess of course but from then and ever since, I have thoroughly enjoyed baking and it has become a true passion and hobby of mine.

Years past and I continued to love food and CAKE! ..and from then on I found myself in the small school office with my guidance Councillor when trying to point me in the right direction when choosing a career path- I said simply  “I want to own my own bakery someday”  and BAM! JAM!  here I am studying Culinary Arts in Dublin Institute of Technology searching, seeking and enjoying the best places to eat in Dublin ( whilst aiming to secure a BA Honours Degree, hopefully in 2017.)

I hope you enjoy my blog and my future posts that will hopefully tickle your curious taste buds.

So that is me, Dublin Foodie Gal.

Now lets seek and find out some more of the best Dublin eateries.
